This monastery got registered under Karnataka Society Act. 1960. Its registration number is DRN/H/SR/CR-461/2010-11. The main aim and objectives of the society is to preserve and promote the knowledge of Buddhist Culture and traditional education, to facilitate advance studies on Buddhist Philosophy and Tibetan language and literature, to promote universal peace and harmony by spreading the messages and the teachings of Lord Buddha on Non-violence and compassion, to name a few.
The members after their admission in this monastery engage themselves in studies and practice on the five treatises of Buddhist Philosophy. It takes about 17 years for a monk to complete formal studies in this monastery. After this program, any interested candidate may apply for admission to Gelug Board examination which is another 6 years course. On successfully completing this 6 years rigorous course, one shall be awarded Geshe Lharampa degree- the highest degree conferred upon monk in Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
After obtaining the degree, the monks make a choice as to how they want to spend the rest of their lives. Many go back to their native place to offer service by way of sharing his knowledge through teaching Buddhism to the interested lay people and monks alike, while others choose to stay on and take up teaching commitment.
The monastery consists of the following
The Governing Body comprises of the Chairman- the abbot of the monastery, three vice-chairmen, three administrators. They meet on regular basis for governing body meeting as per the memorandum of the monastery. All the members of the body are the representative of the General body and are elected for three years except the abbot whose tenure is six years. The abbot is directly appointed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama from the shortlisted nominees elected by the general body. Before expiry of their tenure or on resigning before the completion of their tenure, an election is held to appoint new members in place of outgoing members. Besides being principal executive authority of the society responsible for the general superintendant, direction and control of all the affairs of the society, the governing board has all such powers and can perform all such functions as are necessary or proper for the achievement or furtherance of the objectives of the Society. Both in the governing body meeting as well as in the General Body meeting, the president of the society acts as the chairman at all the meetings. In his absence, a senior amongst the three vice-presidents acts as the Chairman of that particular meeting. All the important matters of the society are brought up in the meeting for discussion and approval.
All the members above Middle Way Buddhist Philosophy automatically become the members of General Body.
The office bearers of the monastery include Chairman, Executive Secretary and Treasurer. The chairman of the governing body members shall be the principle executive officer of the monastery. Executive secretary is the secretary of the Governing Body shall be responsible for the proper administration of the day to day affairs of the monastery and other units under it. He shall keep record of all the proceedings of meetings in safe custody and will also maintain all property records, books of account and all other documents of the monastery.
The five Indian treatises constituting the main body of the curriculum have to be memorized by all aspiring students prior to their admission to the formal study program.
The principal educational tool used in all three of these great monastic universities was the technique of ‘Tsen-nyi’ or reflective enquiry, a highly disciplined form of debate applied for the purpose of penetrating into the deeper meanings of the subjects under study.
This monastery was registered under FCRA 2010 on 24th August 2015. Strictly in compliance with the rules of the society, it has not accepted any foreign contribution before the registration under the FCRA 2010
